Showing Up

There are going to be times when you don’t know what to do--when it seems like there’s nothing that you can do. There are going to be things that aren’t your fault, that you can’t control, and that you can’t fix. There are going to be people that you love who won’t be able to hear you, or trust you, or tell you what they need, or even love you back, and it’s going to suck.

When those times come, and they will, just try to show up. Try not to turn away, or lash out, or take over.

Just show up. It won’t seem like much. It probably won’t seem like anything. Do it anyway. Do it because that’s how you want to be in the world. Do it because people will notice, even if they look like they don’t. Do it because someday, just maybe, there might be something you can do after all.

You’ll never get that chance unless you show up.
